The Little Gem Called Rapperswil

by Michelle Gebert - 5 years, 11 months ago

Rapperswil lies on the Lake of Zurich about 40 minutes away from Zurich. Rapperswil is also known as the Rose City due to its many rose gardens throught the city. On its crest there are also 2 roses. It was previously three roses, one for each of the Counts daughters but one married and moved to Uznach (which is why Uznach has a single rose on its crest). Overlooking Rapperswil is the beautiful and very well maintained Habsburg Castle as well as the Church of St Jakob. Situated close to the railway station one must only walk through the picturest old town to reach the castle on the slight hill. Rapperswil is perfect for a day trip from Zurich. Take the time to explore the little side streets (my favourite is Herrngasse). Rosenstaedter Cafe is located on the Fischmarktplatz and ideal for sitting outside and enjoying some of the wonderful pasteries while people watching.
