Strolling through the old town and the fortress Tallinn can really take you back to the middle ages. The capital, just like the country itself is rather small and you can literally see everything on foot, in one day, if you plan well. If you want to spend more time sampling the Estonian cuisine and their bars, two days will still cover it. Most visitors to Tallinn come over on daytrips from Finland, Sweden or Russia – I was on my way to Stockholm from Minsk and spent 14 hours strolling around the old town. It didn’t seem like many things were too unique but there is a good selection of churches and ruins, shops, museums and of course several places where you can acquire a classic knitted wool sweater.
