The Midwest meets The South

by H Milan Winkelhock - 4 years, 4 months ago

Depending on where you are in the state, you may think you are in the deep south, the Midwest or in some cases (bad parts of St. Louis) a Los Angeles ghetto. I have driven through the state a few times, once stopped in St. Louis and once in the greater Kirksville area. The cities don’t offer too much enjoyment, they are quite plain even compared to many other Midwestern towns. Downtown STL has a few interesting sights like the Arch and the surrounding park with some old sights from the world fair days. Rural Missouri can be on the poorer side but the people are very nice, many small state parks offer up beautiful landscapes with lakes and forests or prairie lands, as the state has many of the Midwest’s characteristics but the humidity of the south. Watch out for chiggers and other bugs while camping!
