Riga is the largest one and my favorite of all the Baltic capitals. The city as absolutely beautiful and just has so much to offer that a I think a lot of people miss out on it while heading to Russia or Estonia too quickly. The old town is packed with amazingly restored streets, churches and other historic buildings, there are several small museum and medieval churches (including a tower with a very nice view) spread throughout the city. The newer parts offer a more modern view with glass banks and shopping centers. Don’t forget to cross the river and check out the massive WWII memorial, it is one of the largest ones in all of Europe. Close to TGI Fridays in the old town there is also a homey Latvian restaurant that only sells pancakes, but with dozens of toppings. While I did not understand what kind of toppings I was choosing (signs in Latvian) these were the best pancakes I have ever had.
