It seems unlikely to expect German influence in a place like Ganja - why would you? And yet, it's there. Head on the road for a few kilometers north, and you come a village where houses seem to be from the Alps and there is a church to top it all. Indeed, Germans from the Volga region settled here in the early 19th century, and their houses are still around, though they were expelled in World War two to Siberia... It all makes for a quirky sight.
