Western Colorado is all about high altitude nature and recreation. While there are a few towns in this region they are all very residential without any real attractions. Camping supplies and lodging is available however but the real attraction is the outdoors. Starting with the high deserts along the Utah border the landscape slowly evolves into a more green and river ridden beauty full of winding roads as you go westward. Before reaching Denver the high Rockies have to be crossed with mountains close to 15,500ft and even the freeway going up to 11,000 plus. This truly is one of the most beautiful places in the world, but be sure to be prepared. A decent car, clothing for all sorts of weather and plenty of food is a must. Bring good shoes for the hikes and if you want, a bike for all the paved trails.
