I spent Independence Day of 2004 in Jacksonville looking at the parades and the waterfront fireworks while enjoying some hot dogs and cold beers. Located in the northern part of Florida, the city is very different from the southern coast and the Miami area, and also from the rest of the northern panhandle. Jacksonville is much slower and more Anglo-American, you have some aspects of all cultures still including the great food options but it lacks both hustle and crowdedness of the south, and the more nonchalant redneck culture of places like Pensacola. Jacksonville is worth a visit if you have a day to spare, it is much less humid and a friendly stop along the way to either Georgia or Disney World.
