Europe's only outpost in North America

by Markus Lundgren - 5 years, 8 months ago

St Pierre is truly a European outpost in Canada, with EU electrical outlets, French food and wine and French spoken, although English dominates in the very East of Canada. I really appreciated the good food for a couple of days. Al Capone used St Pierre as his smuggling centre for the importation of imported European alcohol during prohobition. Still today many Canadians purchase cheap alcohol in St Pierre and smuggle it back to Canada. The tourist season is very short, and already at the end of August you can feel the chilly air. The best time to visit is probably in June/July.
