River Tour

I am very picky about signing up for pre-arranged tours as I really like to explore things on my own, but something I would strongly recommend to everyone who is interested in the architecture of Chicago is to join one of the river based city tours organized by the Chicago Architectural Society (and some local art museums). Last time I took it the price was about $30 and you spend around two hours on an open topped boat cruising the river and some of the smaller canals with a very knowledgeable tour guide, looking at houses, churches, skyscrapers and whatever else is in the sky. The tours are very informative and you actually come away from it feeling like you learned something useful.
