More than meets the eye

I’ve been to Nebraska twice about two years apart, each time crossing the entire state by car, once from east and once from west. To the casual observer the state may be bland and flat without much to offer but if you scratch under the surface you will see that there is plenty of hidden history in the state along with interesting nature feature and some of the best drives in the country. Seeing the sun set or rise along the I-80 is a beautiful experience as you can see the wildlife and the plants come to life or go to sleep. The eastern part of the state is lower (about 1500ft) and more corn oriented, as you drive towards Wyoming you will climb into the 4000s and the landscapes will turn into the high plains and prairies with plenty of grazing cattle. Be sure to get off at some of the rest stops to soak in the atmosphere; I once slept in my car at one of them close to Sydney and ended up being awoken by a bear at 5am knocking on my window.
