Woods in the North East

The state of Maine is the northernmost point along the east coast and also in the lower 48 of US, with a sparse population, cold winters and a beautiful coastline it offers a wilderness unmatched in most places around the world just a few hours north of New York City. I’ve been to Maine a few times, once drove up to Bangor and also as part of a trip to the Canadian Maritimes. The freeway winds itself through thick taiga and moose filled hills, while the coastal roads let you stop in some of the oldest small towns in the United States. There are plenty of opportunities to sample some Maine lobsters if you come during the right season, Portland and Augusta are really pretty towns and should not be missed. For camping head inland, and for luxury you can visit the Kennebunkport region where the Bush family owns quite a bit of property.
