The newly installed "Singing Fountains" of Oskemen

by Thomas Buechler - 3 years, 9 months ago

Oskemen now has an entertainment highlight in its own beauty:  the new musical fountains at Gorkyi street, just besides the City mosque (well worth a visit as well) on the huge open square. Operating after sunset around 7pm, it's the most beautiful symbiosis of popular music songs and water fountains, a nice treat that the city now offers to residents and the few tourists who come here all the way. During the day, I recommend a stroll in the nice Zhastar park, it even houses what must be the smallest Orthodox church in the world. Music comes from the loudspeakers and you can find a large variety of plants. The Victory Monument, at the confluence of Irtish and Ulba rivers, makes a nice walk to an area commonly known as "Strelka". It pays tribute to the fallen heroes of the Soviet Union during the Second World War. There are also some nice museums in town, but check the opening hours.
