Little Italy in Haapsalu

by Irina Ivanova - 1 year, 5 months ago

I didn't expect anything interesting from Festival of Italian culture in such a small town as Haapsalu. For the first night we bought tickets to Kuursaal for some live concert and it was a great disappointment – we were late for about 10 minutes and waitress told us, that they are not sure that we can get our reserved sits, because they started to sell them right after the beginning. Kuursaal was full of people, but there was only couple of waitresses, so the service was really-really slow. Worst of all, they were out of Prosecco (15 minutes after the start), so we decided to go away, after what our magical Italian vacation really begins.

Haapsalu has a lot of wine bars, that offered a lot of good Italian wines and cheeses. The weather was warm, so everyone was sitting outdoors (just like in Italy!) Many restaurants offered a really good seafood meals, for example, we had the best seafood pasta in Estonia in a little place called Hapsal Dietrich. Many places offered an Italian pizza right from the wood oven. On a festival day the whole main street was full of tents that offered different Italian wines in different categories (like Prosecco, white and red wine etc). To participate in degustation you need to buy a special glass for something like 15€ after what you can taste all wines in every tent. So the food and wine part was really hight quality.

On a festival day they also had a stage, where some great musicians played some Italian music. There was playing my favourite Estonian guitarist Paul Neitsov, which was a very nice surprise for me.

Haapsalu is located on the Baltic sea and they have a lovely promenade where you can enjoy bike ride. They say, that Haapsalu has the warmest sea in the Estonia (I didn't swim, because it was the beginning of June). They also have a lovely port, so you can come there by yacht, if you have one.

I definitely recommend to visit the festival of Italian culture in Haapsalu if you like wine, good music and food.
