It was the year 1983. I was travelling with a Quebecoise girl, hitchhiking. We crossed from Laredo to Nuevo Laredo and since at the borders is hard to get a ride, we resolved to travel further by bus. We spent some time in Nuevo Laredo feeling the mexican atmosphere. My girlfriend could speak a little the spanish language.
The difference of the style and way of living between Laredo and Nuevo Laredo was enormous. Everything was much cheaper in Mexico and the people more accesible. Food was much better in Mexico..
We loved when, after a few hours exploring Nuevo Laredo, and we finally took a bus to Monterrey, how the driver stopped a few kilometers further to pray before a chapel sheltering the Virgin Mary. We also prayed since both we were catholics.
I would have the opportunity to visit again Tamaulipas state in the year 2008, when travelling from Texas, Matamoros, to Veracuz making some stops on the way, for instance in Tampico.
