Mono Lake South Tufa

by Joaquin Ossorio Castillo - 2 years ago

[July 2016] While driving through the US 395, I discovered the picture of a strange lake hanging from the walls of a gas station. I asked the owner and he told me that it was Mono Lake, close to the Tioga Pass entrance of Yosemite National Park (where I was heading). The strange rock formations that populate the shores of the lake, called 'tufa towers', are due to the high salinity levels of the lake. The best place to see them is the South Tufa Area, close to the small town of Lee Vining. An amazing (and completely unexpected) visit. :-)
