If you happen to be in Ankara (which is overall not recommended), then Anitkabir is certainly the highlight. The burial place of the founder of modern Turkey, Ataturk, is a place of reverence for most modern Turks, who come here in droves on the anniversary of the great man's death, November 10th. The whole complex was built mainly in the 50s and comprises a number of different parts, which can all be seen in an hour or so. The tomb itself is small and understated, but the vintage cars are much grander. The souvenir shop has all things Ataturk - from ties to personal mirrors. See if you can resist the temptation to get something. I ended up with a brand new Ataturk wallet.
