Capital of nowhere...

by Harry Mitsidis - 5 years ago

The capital of Karakalpakstan, Nukus, is quite a big town considering it is in the middle of nowhere, and connected well with the rest of Uzbekistan by two daily flights to Tashkent and also a train. The place is rather dire to be honest. Lots of Soviet style buildings and nothing much more apart from an interesting museum of art, where they take your camera at the entrance (Uzbekistan is very photograph-unfriendly). I do not propose Nukus to anybody unless you really want to get the point. Having said that, the girl at the reception of the Nukus hotel was really friendly (and really gorgeous too) and is very eager to practice her good English.
