UNESCO World Site - Khiva

by Harry Mitsidis - 5 years ago

I found Khiva overrated. The small old town is pretty enough but way too touristy and 'cleaned up' in a way, almost like an Uzbek version of Disneyland. It is more interesting to walk to the Northern area of the citadel, where people still live, and try to see how they live - the touristy part has lots of souvenirs made in China and is the kind of place where newlyweds will go to get photographed. Considering that it's quite a detour - I do not recommend it.
