I didn't really like Hoi An

by Harry Mitsidis - 4 years, 10 months ago

Hoi An is very popular with western tourists as a 'classic' Vietnamese village. It's about half an hour or so away from Danang, so easily accessible, and its location on a river and by the sea should make it idyllic. Yet, despite the fact that the pictures may look good, I found the place rather artificial. like having a Disneyland presentation of what should be an authentic village - only that it looks far too clean, far too comfortable and generally has far too many tourists and offers to really count for much. Tourists who are just that may well like it - but travellers who know better may well wish for something else. In fact I like Danang, a real city with a true pulse, much better.
