In the cold waters of the Russian Arctic

In August 2013 I had an opportunity to sail along the northern coast of Russia, reaching Kara Sea and sailing around Vaygach Island. Our initial plan was to reach Franz Joseph Land and land on Novaya Zemlya but in the last moment Russian officials without explanation forbad us to do that. Nonetheless, that was an amazing experience, as we sailed during polar day for more than two weeks. On Vaygach, where we made a stop waiting out bad weather, we met a group of Nenets on old motorboats. Unfortunately, they were not willing to socialize with us and returned very quickly to their village.
