UNESCO site at Bagerhat

by Harry Mitsidis - 4 years, 3 months ago

Getting to Bagerhat was not easy. From Jessore airport I took a rickshaw to town. The problem was that there was a strike (as usual). All buses were cancelled and the taxi prices to Khulna were exorbitant. In the end I took a shared tuk-tuk which took an incredible 13 people of us to Khulna. From there, Bagerhat is a little less than an hour, and there was a bus on this route. Jessore airport to Bagerhat took me 5 hours for what is approximately around 85 kilometers.

The site itself is quiet. Not overly impressive, but historically important. There is a small museum and a little next door a lake, children were playing when I was there... Across the road there is another shrine. The whole area used to be a very important town a few centuries ago. Not any more though...
