A wedding in Vilnius

15.5.2013. We have just got back from a wedding in Vilnius, capital city of Lithuania. Yet another mixed couple, the groom from Holland, the bride from Vilnius. Vilnius is built on the banks of a river and has many beautiful parks and walks along the river bank. It has an old town that has been restored recently, with narrow cobble-stoned streets and houses dating back to the Middle Ages. Its University dates back to the 15th century and is in the old town which is bustling with student activity and life. There are many cafes and restaurants and the meals we had were very good. There is a modern business area across the river with modern hotels, banking sector etc. If you have an extra day you can go to Trakai, an hour away and visit the castle where the first ruler of Lithuania lived. We were very lucky with the weather and could walk around the old city enjoying the history of this pleasant Baltic capital.
