Hells of Beppu or Heaven on Earth

by Wojciech Fedoruk - 4 years, 11 months ago

Beppu is known from its hot springs, named by the Japanese as "jigoku” – “hells”. If Japanese idea of hell is the same as European, the name of these springs stem from the incredible amounts of steam and high water temperature (up to 100 degrees) which should be approached very carefully. Besides of that the "hells "look like "heavens" on Earth! Nine of jigoku are open for tourists and each of them is different from the others. So there are ponds with white, green, blue, red or bronze water, as well as mud springs and geyser. Please avoid Yama-Jigoku and its mini zoo, where big animals are kept in scandalously tiny space.
