Since arriving Isfahan on 4 March, folks suggested I talk to The American International School in Isfahan about possible substitute teaching to help pass some time and to make money for my upcoming European trip to meet Debbie. I did talk to the school and was told after the upcoming Nowruz holiday they would contact me if I was needed. They paid $30/day...good money for me at the time. As it turns out, after the holiday I probably averaged at least 3.5-4 days a week of substitute teaching in all grades, 1st through High School.
But before the holiday mom & dad took me to Tehran for the first time as they were able to shop at the Embassy Commissary. Huge , dirty, crowded city on the whole, but still very interesting. As far as the best city in Iran, I think that I lived in it, Isfahan.
It was an 8 hour drive by car or bus to travel between Isfahan and Tehran, with the city of Qom about an hour south of Tehran.
