I flew from NYC to Doha, Qatar, where I had a long layover to leave the airport and explore the city. I then flew to Tbilisi, Georgia, via Baku, Azerbaijan. I took a train from Tbilisi to Zugdidi, where I crossed briefly into Abkhazia. I then explored the Svaneti region of Georgia for several days, then returned by bus to Tbilisi. I did a day trip by bus and taxi to Vardzia via Akhaltsikhe, then took an overnight train from Tbilisi to Yerevan, Armenia. From Khor Virap, I hired a taxi to Tatev, during which we passed through an exclave of Nakhchivan, Azerbaijan. From Tatev, I hired a taxi to Shushi, Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh), then to Stepanakert. Another taxi drove me over the Sotk Pass and along Lake Sevan back to Yerevan. I then took a bus from Yerevan to Tbilisi, passing through parts of western Azerbaijan on the way. From Tbilisi, I flew back to NYC via Doha.
